Title: The Tree of Amalion
Artist: J.R.R. Tolkien

The Tree of Amalion, [?1940s]

Throughout his life Tolkien drew different versions of a tree which bore a variety of flowers and leaves. He called it the Tree of Amalion, and it represented his personal 'Tree of Tales'. Each leaf and flower represented a story or poem in his mind - far more than he could bring to fruition.
